A Theogeek's View of Creation:
Is God Completely Invisible?
Romans 1:18-20
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
If God did not design the universe, then where did we come from??
1. We are just in a privileged place and time in the universe. (Weak Anthropic Principle)
This view teaches that since the universe is so large, then the right conditions for life might occur in certain times and in certain, rare regions. It is the idea that life will appear given enough time (infinite amount of time = unlimited possibilities).
2. The universe sprang from another universe. (Strong Anthropic Principle)
This view teaches that the universe we live in is a result of past Big Bangs and Big Crunches. It is the idea that the universe is eternal, and since it is eternal, then everything will eventually happen.
3. We, as humans, created the universe. (Participatory Anthropic Principle)
This view teaches that we create ourselves by observing ourselves. It is the idea that nothing exists in reality unless it is observed by us.
4. The universe was created by our descendants. (Final Anthropic Principle)
This view teaches that our in the future our descendants will evolve into god and create the universe in the past. This principle is better known as CRAP, the Completely Ridiculous Anthropic Principle,
What are the weaknesses of each of these views?
WAP (Weak Anthropic Principle)
1. It does not acknowledge a beginning for the universe.
2. Time is not infinite, it had a beginning.
3. The natural laws of the universe do not appear to change. The chances that a planet like ours would come along with the conditions necessary for life do not increase with time! And for the few conditions that might be helped with more time, the time our universe offers - at most 20 billion years - is not nearly enough.
SAP (Strong Anthropic Principle)
1. It does not acknowledge a beginning for the universe. Even if this universe sprang from another "mother universe," there is still no explanation of the mother universe's beginning.
2. Even if there are multiple universes, the chances for life are not increased.
3. This theory is absolutely speculative, unscientific, and unprovable. It is borderline fantasy.
4. This theory could be used to prove that in a universe somewhere Elvis is the President of the USA.
PAP (Participatory Anthropic Principle)
1. An intelligent observer is not necessary to give something reality; a photographic plate will detect the particle or thing just as well!
2. Nothing in the universe can travel faster than light; so if the act of observing actually causes things to be created, then it would mean that by looking through a telescope could alter events happening billions of years in the past.
FAP (Final Anthropic Principle)
1. Ignores the logical need for a cause to precede an effect.
2. This theory actually gives credence to a transcendent Creator since it concludes that there must be an intelligence to make intelligent selections about the conditions for life.
3. Its completely wacko and unscientific.
Note: The greatest scientists throughout the ages, those who have made the greatest scientific discoveries, have all acknowledged that the evidence of design points to intelligence. Including: Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilee, Albert Einstein, Edwin Hubble, and Fred Hoyle.
Which takes more faith to believe?
1. Design in the universe points to some means by which humans created themselves?
2. Design points to an infinite number of universes that somehow sprang out of nothing?
3. Design points to a transcendent Creator?
(transcendent: Beyond and outside the ordinary range of human experience or understanding)
These are the only options, philosophically and scientifically.
